Simtix - Serious srcurity for serious threats

Technology alone doesn’t create a safe and secure workplace. But can the right technologies have a dramatic impact on facility security?

Our answer is an emphatic, Yes!

Today's Threats Demand Integrated Technologies

In today’s high threat environment, no single security technology can completely protect a facility. What’s more, no single vendor provides the best security products for every facet of protection. The company that offers the best CCTV systems, for example, may not provide the best under vehicle scanners, and neither vendor may even offer biometrics.

Consequently, the best protected facilities may deploy dozens of best-of-breed technologies from a host of different vendors. Ironically, as more technologies are added to the mix, security protection may become less effective. The reason? Security staffs become overloaded with too many controls, images, information and disconnected systems.

The solution is to add new components to a security system that is designed to integrate a wide variety of technologies from a wide variety of vendors.

At Simtix, we recognize this multi-product reality. That’s why we don’t manufacture any security hardware products. Our mission is to provide the master security systems that control these individual devices and make them work in harmony, to create a truly effective security envelope.

At the heart of our integration strategy is the Simtix Security Platform (continued) …

What is the Simtix Security Platform

The Simtix Security Platform is a enterprise-class applications server that has been designed from the outset to serve the unique demands of a multi-product security infrastructure. In simple terms it is a security operating system that interconnects security devices, and provides the backbone for custom security applications.

But it’s not sold separately!

The security platform isn’t sold separately. It is a core technology that is included with all of the Simtix security systems. Simtix Perimeter Guardian, the vehicular security system, for example, includes the security platform for managing all the traffic control devices and the ANPR and UVIS technologies.

Most well protected facilities deploy a broad array of security technologies: CCTV, movement sensors, biometrics, card access control, asset tagging & RFID tracking, license plate reading, scanning, and so forth. But the key to good security isn’t how many technologies are deployed, it’s how well the technologies are integrated.

All of Simtix’s facility security applications integrate a variety of different technologies, and these applications on buuilt on the Simtix Security Platform. We are proud to note that we have three patents pending for innovations in our technology infrastructure.

Here are some of the main features of the Simtix Security Platform:

Open: Any comprehensive security solution must employ a varied set of technologies and approaches to have effective counter measures. Accordingly, the Simtix Security Platform is designed to integrate devices and technologies from a broad range of suppliers. The open platform makes it easy to integrate legacy equipment, the latest products from specialized vendors, and the architecture allows future products (that have yet to be commercially released) to be integrated. In other words, the platform can grow and adapt as your needs change, without major disruptions and expense.

Threat Levels: Threat levels are recognized internationally as a way to adapt security policies and procedures to the prevailing threats. The higher the threat, the more rigorous the counter measures, and threat levels may be changed based on intelligence, a known event, or when more valuable assets are on the facility, e.g. a VIP. All products built on the Simtix Security Platform can automatically adapt their behaviors based on a simple threat level setting. One example is that the vehicle screening rates increase at higher threat levels. This simple concept has very powerful implications on the security system, and allows facilities to balance the often conflicting needs of maintaining strong security while avoiding operational disruption.

Adaptive: No two facilities are identical, and every organization has developed its own security policies and practices. Consequently many aspects of the system can be configured to best fit your operational requirements. In the case of Simtix Perimeter Guardian, your security leadership, for example, can define specifically what information is captured about each vehicle, and what data is recorded about each visit. Similarly, the specific checks that need to be made during a vehicle inspection are configurable, and can be uniquely defined for each threat level.

Distributed: The Simtix Security Platform is a multi-tiered distributed enterprise software platform that can easily (but securely) be accessed from any networked computer or PDA. A supervisor in Tokyo, for example, can monitor and even operate the gate operations at a refinery in, say, Holland. In a more local scenario, any authorized security officer or executive can access the system on the local area network (LAN) and monitor/manage operations. In other words, operations are not limited to the gate houses and the control room; but of course they can be if that’s your preference.

RFID: The platform includes rich support for asset tracking using 433 MHz active RFID tags. Applications built on the platform can determine the precise location of any asset and trigger location-based events such as sounding an alarm when an asset leaves a building.

Global & International: With offices and partners around the globe, Simtix’s products are designed from the ground up to operate globally. Simtix's products can be configured to operate in multiple languages and each user can optionally select their language preference. Additional “language packs” can be added to the system if you need to expand the number of supported languages.
